Time Flies

I've been so busy over the past few months on a variety of projects and school visits.  I was able to kick-off the Barnes & Noble Book Donation Drive in which we broke last year's record and I was a judge in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards in NYC.  Here is some of what I've been working on.

About Me

S.J.Petruccio
I was an artist as a child and am still creating art. Mostly self taught, except for my years at SVA, my need to paint and draw drives me daily. As a boy I sat on the stoop and drew pictures. The years were filled with studying the works of comic book artists and the works of Michelangelo. I was left on my own to discover the how and why of art. It was Burne Hogarth who wrote a letter of recommendation for me to get into the School Of Visual Arts in NYC. I learned how to say what I wanted to say in a painting and make it an illustration. A unique craft of thinking, drawing and communicating. I began getting freelance illustration work before I graduated. Work grew steadily and after a few years I began my career illustrating childrens books. Sixty-something books later, I'm still doing what I love to do. I developed my own vision in my fine art paintings. I painted the places and things I knew best. My work was soon accepted into juried exhibitions at the North East Watercolor Society and The American Artists Professional League. I was a board member for our local art center and also began a part-time teaching career at the college level.
